The Inspiration Challenge | LL :FIVE 🐳 πŸ’™

Hello, everyone!!! I hope you all had an amazing couple of weeks and I hope you had time to gather a few hobby ideas. Make sure you're making some time for that every week and making time for yourself, in general, every week. The past couple of weeks I have had A TON of school work to do! Now I am finally getting into a routine. Khalen's team won their first game and he made the first touchdown at Tennessee Tech! That was something really exciting for his family and me to witness. What exciting thing happened to you this week? Let me know in the comments.

This weeks topic includes a few tips and tricks on how to calm yourself down in the
middle of a panic attack, anxiety attack or just an anxious moment. Again, I am not a doctor but I have suffered from anxiety and I am studying the brain and have a lot of relevant knowledge regarding healthy ways you can calm yourself down.

Let's talk about some important background information first. The amygdala in the brain is a major part that controls emotion and specifically fears. Some believe that this is the part of the brain that could have distortion for people that have anxiety and phobias. This is something that can be caused by genetics OR learned behavior.

During a panic attack, anxiety attacks or an intense anxious moment some physical effects could include: sweating, hyperventilating, headache, slight blindness, itchiness, etc. Your initial response to calm these side effects down is NOT to solve the problem right away. At the moment this is not a good time for your brain to process the best choices on how to solve the problem. You should know and understand what triggered you to feel this way, however.

You first want to just sit down and put your phone down. Turning the lights off could also be a good idea in this moment. If you are hot and sweating gets a cold towel and apply it to your head. Drink some water and just focus on taking even long and deep breaths. These tools are going to help you calm your heart rate down and in turn, this will start eliminating the symptoms of the attack. Depending on what time of day it is you may need to take a hot bath and call it a day. You want to limit your social interactions for the rest of the day and rest your body and mind. Limit the unnecessary thinking and information processing so your brain and heart can calm down. Calming down is all you should be concentrating on in this moment.

THE NEXT DAY is when you want to do reflecting on what could have caused the problem, who was involved, how can I stop this from happening again or what to do when this happens again. Some things just happen in life that we can not predict and you can't stop everything from happening again. With the situations that you can control and that aren't needed you have to eliminate them.

This week go through your triggers that you have written down. Highlight the ones that you can control and begin eliminating those situations. If this means eliminating people or having conversations or staying away from something or someone then you have to do these things for yourself. The items that you cannot highlight, the things you cannot control, start researching healthy and appropriate coping mechanisms for this situation. Educate yourself for the next time a life changing event happens. Teach yourself how to calm down, how to step back and give yourself time to solving a problem.
